Angies list? is not my list!

This is one of those company’s that I do not have a major problem with I just don’t get why some one would pay to offer reviews or read reviews. I also am bothered by the slick marketing and fluff in the print copy. What do I mean by fluff? its like a new car sticker that list 100 items on it. The sticker shows things like included  4 tires, side view mirrors, trunk carpet. No shit you really have to tell me that it will come with 4 tires? mirrors? carpet? What I can get 4 crates instead? Well angies list on their website. List MSNBC, NY TIMES, FOX & FRIENDS, TODAY and US NEWS prominently like they are some kind of endorsement. In reality they say very little more than fluff.

NY TIMES: “Not sure where to look for a reliable contractor? …join Angie’s List.”

FOX & FRIENDS: “Angie’s List is the premier agency for finding consumer reviews on just about any service, from plumbing to health.”

The next thing that bothers me is this statement:

Why Angie’s List is better than free review sites:

  • No anonymous reviews.  BIDPETE calls BULLSHIT
  • Certified data collection process prevents  companies and providers from reporting on themselves  or their competitors.  BIDPETE calls DOUBLE BULLSHIT

I in fact know of one company and have worked for another that offered their employees incentives to go home and write phony reviews about the company they work for so the company’s rating on angies list can go up. (will tell you in a minute why rating to a company are important) NO anonymous reviews. How dopey do you really have to be to believe this one? Anybody can makeup a Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail account to write positive reviews on a company.

The next thing that bothers me is this statement:

  • Companies can’t pay to be on Angie’s List
  • Reviews come from real people like you, not anonymous users

Companies can’t pay to be on angies list. True. Well sort of. This is slick and in my book equal to the “reach around” Companies do not pay to get into angies list, but once they are on angies list they pay big to get their company higher on the list!  Here is a small sample of a letter a company received once they were on angies list. Make sure members choose you by becoming a featured company on Angies list. Web placement or keyword advertising: Appear on the first page of search results so members can easily find and access your reviews. Call center advertising. Be 1 of only 4 referrals provided when a member calls Angies list looking for a highly rated service provider in your category. This last one is the one that really bothers me, if I am working on the premise that I should trust a company because of the reviews, and then I call Angies list call center and they recommend the top 4 company’s because the company’s paid to become one of the top 4. Then the reviews don’t matter so why am I reading them or writing them? Reviews are worthless if they are not the only thing that rates a company.

Reviews come from real people not anonymous users: Slick wording going on here! Yes no anonymous users are allowed, what they mean is that you must have a valid email. You can’t just write as anonymous. But as I said anyone can make up a fictitious email address and then write a review. Yes a real person but still anonymous and not a true review. Angies list would probably counter by saying that they charge for membership to make sure that the person is real, and BIDPETE will counter that if I own a company on Angies list, the monthly fee of $13.60 to be a member is an acceptable cost of doing business to have my employees or friends  write positive reviews on my company. I could go on and on, but what I want is for you to look at everything around you with open eyes. Be an educated consumer.

AM I A BULLY?

Well speak up! Am I a bully? No hell NO, what I am is the SENSEI OF COMMON SENSE(tm) THE MAYOR OF REAL VILLE. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck you can put lipstick and a tutu on it and call it a swan if you want but the truth is that it’s a duck. What made me ask if I am a bully is a few comments and emails that made me think that I might be coming off a kind of bully. And that upsets me because that is the last impression that I want to put out. So I am going to step back and let you answer the question. Here is just one of the comments and my reply that made me ask the question. It is from my https://breakitdownpete.wordpress.com/2011/09/18/auto-salesman-exposed/ post.

So am I a bully or just a super genius,  Am I a bully or the most interesting man in the world, (stay thirsty my friends)  Am I a bully or just hot like Magic Mike, Am I a bully or just delusional!

anonymous Comment

dude you guys act like auto salespeople are making a million dollars a year….we are just trying to make a living to feed our families…… We work long hours 12 hours a day 3 days a week 10 hrs a day the other days, never 2 days in a row off and people talk to us like trash….we have a lot of people waste our time……so we do deserve to make a little money because in essence we are working 1 full time job and 1 part time job…..whatever you do for a living you have to make profit to stay in business and feed your family……WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?  And if we don’t make a profit the dealership will shut down like dealers that were in business for over 100 hundred years that closed down…now those local customers can drive all the way accross town to service their cars, because they wanted to beat their local dealer up for a few hundred dollars, I think they shot themselves in the foot……ALL BUSINESSES HAVE TO MAKE A PROFIT…..SO IF ANY BUSINESS MAKES A PROFIT THAT MUST BE A CRIME…….SINCE YOU ARE SO INCONSIDERATE AND HAVE A MOUTH THAT SOMEONE TOOK A CRAP IN, DO YOU KISS YOUR MOTHER WITH THAT MOUTH AND MAYBE I SHOULD TRY TO BUST EVERYONE I EVER TALK TO FOR A BETTER DEAL……OR DO I ALLOW A MAN TO MAKE A FAIR PROFIT……

BIDPETE Reply

Hell Yea! This is what I am talking about people. GREAT comment! You make some really great points and intelligently articulated them until your meds wore off and then you got all personal and shit with the mother thing. But I got nothing but love for you. I really hope you do not stay Anonymous because I would love it if you became a regular contributor. If you read more of my post and the comments on them from my regular readers you will see that I am on your side it is for hard-working family people like yourself that I write for. (I say people because I don’t even know if you are a man or woman) When you read my site in totality including my about page you will see that I have a serious message that I wrap around with some colorful language just to keep the site fresh and entertaining. Read my WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE A MAN or FATHER IS WHAT I AM or ANOTHER BITCH ASS MAN or BAGGY PANTS SERIOUSLY STILL. Now to answer your question I am a fleet manager, I am a class A certified diesel mechanic with 40 years working experience so yes I can speak on this subject because I have also worked the 60 hrs. A week you talk about most of it during the grave yard shift! I am also a republican, so yes I believe in business making a profit. And dealerships are closing for many reasons like POOR customer service, Mismanagement, poor inventory strategies, manufacture recalls and so on. Not just because I was well prepared and made the best well-informed and educated deal on my last car. And did not fall for the $250.00 stain protection treatment that was just a can of spray that I could buy myself for $30.00 dollars or the $800.00 security alarm that you just had the local alarm installer do for you for $150.00. Please return and join in on making a difference. Or stay Anonymous whining and bitter. Your choice? Peace!

Yes Multi-millionaire! Please…

I read a few articles a couple of weeks ago and was pissed off by the hard sell and grandiose attitude. It upsets me when we are fed these glorious how to become millionaire how to’s. “Learn how to generate multimillion-dollar wealth — and enjoy the journey on your way to the top”. “First, understand that you no longer want to be just a millionaire. You want to become a multimillionaire”. Hears my answer EAT ME!  They never give you word for word or step by step directions. Just hyperbole and round about that lead you to a product or service or agenda that they are really trying to sell. And that’s what is truly upsetting to me is that we fall for the fast track, the get rich quick scam the take a magic pill and lose weight or wear the magic electric belt and loose belly fat story. STOP IT!!! Holy shit whats it going to take for us to understand the facts: To lose weight you have to burn off more calories than you take in. PERIOD! Basically eat better and smarter and move more. You know, don’t pound down 5 cheese burgers and take a nap instead eat one cheese burger and take a walk. Now I know it is not that simple, some people have medical issue, mental issues etc. Save your complaints I get it! You are the one who doesn’t get the point of this post. It’s not about fat people or poor people or stupid people it’s about stepping back and thinking, applying some thought and common sense processes. Ok back to the post. For financial health spend less money then you make. Basic math people. The greatest word in math is MULTIPLY!  If you make  $1,000 a month but spend $1,500  MULTIPLY that by 12 months and you’re in deep shit. Now multiply that by the credit you use to make up that $500.00 you over spent and the criminal interest rates you paid to use that credit by 12 months and now you are in really deep stinky diarrhea shit. On the other hand spend less than you make and save or invest that extra cash, MULTIPLY it by 12 months and now your shit don’t stink now you have some peace of mind, now you are not depressed about money and not arguing with your partner about money and you have a little security, now maybe your credit score is better and you can take advantage of opportunities that might arise to increase your net worth. NET that’s another great word. GROSS doesn’t mean shit if your NET sucks. If you’re gross is a million dollars but your liabilities are 1.5 million then your net worth is negative 1/2 a million and your financial life sucks. Wait, Wait for it, here come the wall street crowd, Pete you are wrong you forgot about leverage in this scenario. And too you I also say EAT ME! You don’t get the point of this post. I have no finance back ground, I am not offering your bullshit advice to my readers so save it. My savvy readers get this post, come back and read their comments. I simply say THINK, RESEARCH, TRUST YOUR GUT, USE COMMON SENCE. Dont allow yourself to become the food in the food chain!

UPDATE:  In one of those articles they had  rules for becoming a multimillionaire and I have to admit that some of them if you use them in everyday life could be beneficial. So I will copy and past their rules and add/adjust to make them work for me. You are welcome to see if they fit in your life.

And one more thing, when you become a Multimillionaire. Help a brother out! Send me a few bucks.

No. 1: Decide to be a multimillionaire
BIDPETE:
How about I first decide I want to be a better person, better father, better husband, better man. Yea I think I will start there and I bet you I will start making better choices, better decisions.

No. 2: Get rid of poverty thinking
BIDPETE: WTF? im just going to ignore this one. I want to remember the hard times, the mistakes so I can enjoy my accomplishments. P.S. I get it I just don’t ever want to lose myself.

No. 3: Treat it like a duty                                                                                                                                                        BIDPETE: Yes you have to be focused, committed and work hard every day towards your goals in life. What ever those goals are.

No. 4: Surround yourself with multimillionaires
You can’t learn how to make money from someone who doesn’t have much. Who says, “Money won’t make you happy”? People without money. Who says, “All rich people are greedy”? People who aren’t rich. Wealthy people don’t talk like that. You need to know what people are doing to create wealth and follow their example: What do they read? How do they invest? What drives them? How do they stay motivated and excited?                                                                                                                                                                                                              BIDPETE: A big yes. I believe that you have to move out side of your circle of influence to grow. If your circle involves chaos and confusion, or abuse or negativity, poverty, criminality. You can not learn how to move on from this circle. That is why they are still in this circle, they don’t know how to get out of it. You have to look outside of this circle one circle at a time untill you acquire the skill set to move on. I could go on for days on this one. If you don’t make a change today than tomorrow will be just more of the same and so on for years maybe even a life time.

No. 5: Work like a millionaire                                                                                                                                              Financially successful people are consumed by their hunt for success and work to the point that they feel they are winning and not just working.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    BIDPETE: Hell yea! Just don’t forget to smell the roses. Enjoy your life. Be there for your FAMILY!

No. 6: Shift focus from spending to investing
The rich don’t spend money; they invest. They know the U.S. tax laws favor investing over spending. You buy a house and can’t write it off. The rich, in contrast, buy an apartment building that produces cash flow, appreciates and offers write-offs year after year. You buy cars for comfort and style. The rich buy cars for their company that are deductible because they are used to produce revenue.  BIDPETE: Hello! Checkmate! Read this section a hundred time please!

No. 7: Create multiple flows of income
The really rich never depend on one flow of income but instead create a number of revenue streams.           BIDPETE: CHA-CHING!

CREDIT 101.1a quiz answers

Thank you to all who contributed to this post and for having some fun with the comments. Below you will find the answers to the quiz. What I want and hope is that you will consider your credit and the value it has on your finances. I will continue to post on this topic in the future. In the mean time here is the greatest link to the most informative site I  know on this topic. Go there and use it! It is a great resource!       WWW.CREDITFAIRY.ORG     Please give me some feed back on this resource. Do you have one we should know about?

1. It is impossible to change what’s in your credit report.
False

Correct! Inaccuracies, errors, out of date information canbe fixed with the credit bureaus. Accurate negative information (late payments, delinquencies, etc.) less than seven years old cannot be magically “erased” from your report, but you can begin to rebuild your credit by making positive financial choices going forward.

2. You have to make a lot of money to have a good credit score.
False

Correct! Your income is not included as part of your credit score or credit bureau report.

3. Paying cash for every purchase hurts your credit.

True

Correct! If you do not have any established sources of credit—credit cards, loans, etc.—lenders will actually consider you a credit risk. Paying your bills on time, using varied sources of credit and building a long credit history can bolster your credit score. Consider taking out a small loan and paying it off quickly or opening a new credit card and paying your charges off each month to help boost your score.

4. You have multiple credit scores.

True

Correct! You actually have at least four credit scores! Each of the three credit bureaus—Experian, Equifax and TransUnion—calculates your credit score based on their own information and data, in addition to calculating your FICO score based on their own information as well.

5. It takes 7 years to fix a poor credit score.
False

Correct! Negative credit items like late payments, defaults or delinquencies do remain on your credit report for seven years on average. However, you can begin to rebuild your credit score almost immediately by adding positive items (like on-time payments) to your credit history, thereby diluting the effect of past negative items.

6. Keeping old credit card accounts open can improve your credit score.

True

Correct! Length of credit history accounts for at least 15 percent of your overall credit score, so if you have a number of credit cards and decide you want to close one, selecting the card with the longest history is not the best choice. Payment history accounts for up to 35 percent of your score, so make sure you keep the cards you’ve had the longest, and pay them on time every month. The longer you’ve had a card with a good payment history, the better!

7. When you get married, your credit score is merged with your spouse’s.
False

Correct! Your credit history is unique to you…forever. However, if you apply for joint credit (car loan, home mortgage, etc.) with your spouse, both credit histories will be reviewed. If one of you has a negative credit history, it can affect whether or not you will be approved for the loan and its terms.

8. Checking your credit report can hurt or lower it.
False

Correct! You have the right to check your credit report anytime; this is called an “administrative inquiry” and it does not affect your credit score. However, too many inquiries made by potential lenders over a twelve month period canlower your score, so be careful about opening too many cards or applying for too many loans in one year.

9. Credit scores and credit reports are two different things.

True

Correct! Your credit report is a comprehensive listing of all your current and past credit cards, loans, and other personal financial data. Your credit scoreis a number calculated from the data in your credit report and other information, like checking accounts.

10. Bankruptcy is a “fresh start” for troubled credit.
False

Correct! Bankruptcies are reflected on your credit report…so while you won’t owe any outstanding debts anymore once you have filed for bankruptcy, the bankruptcy itself will still have a negative impact on your overall credit score.

Credit 101.1 QUIZ

So let’s try this again!  From the top this time!  CREDIT! CREDIT! CREDIT! you can not get away from this word and what it means in your life. Here is the definition straight out of the dictionary. You can easily see that the word CREDIT is a good thing until you fuck it up! then its your worst nightmare. Like that house you promised your baby you would buy her, before CREDIT made you a liar! Or why you still live with your MaMa because CREDIT said No Way Jose to the only apartment your broke ass could afford. And the reason your ass is broke is because CREDIT told your potential employer that you are a dead beat loser who might be a risk to hire. Yea, Yea, get the sand out of your vagina and stop your crying I know this is not the majority of you that I speak of. I know there are many legit reasons for having a poor credit score like your company down sizing and kicking your ass to the curb, or your dumb ass cheating and your partner kicking you to the curb like the dog that you are and taking your CREDIT with them. Or that Casanova you met on-line that you traveled overseas to marry only to find out that he was already married to 3 other women, and a prison escapee who conned you out of your good credit. Wait shit this one doesn’t count if this is you then you are already to stupid for me to help. Or the evil bankers who sold you that million dollar house while you were working at Micky D’s. Or the family member you co-signed for, who turned up on Americas Most Wanted. I am not talking about you! I am mostly talking about me! Back in the day! Before I became older then dirt! I was probably all of these except the overseas one. That one I have no sympathy for i’m just going to keep laughing at your dumb ass. So get a grip! Rope-A-Dope 1.0

Need to lose 30lbs?  Try sensa FREE*! Ah the wonderful world of marketing. The definition for marketing: The process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service. Now my definition of Marketing: The rope-a-dope, The now you see it now you don’t, The art of manipulation, The technique of making shit smell good. marketing’s job is to convince you that you need, want, must have, or that there is some value in the product or service it is trying to sell. Learn it, study it as you might need to market yourself at some time in your life. Now lets break down the two first lines how i see them. Need to lose 30lbs? This a basic sales tool, to get the targeted consumer to always be saying YES! you want the consumer to get used to saying yes to all of your questions. So that when you get to the end of the sale, typically known as the close of the deal you will be inclined to say yes since you have said it thru out the presentation. And since this is a lose weight product the targeted consumer will always be looking to lose weight. Hence say yes. Got it! Second without actually saying that you will lose 30lbs the ad subliminally implies that you could lose 30lbs with their product. But when you look at the fine print you will see something like this is an average or its possible if you also follow a strict eating plan or exercise program. Now the second line. Try the product FREE*! Here is where they hit you with their get out of jail free card the Dreaded ASTERIX SYMBOL! Look around some where in the ad you will see the asterix symbol again and this time it will be full of disclaimers where you will find out that free is not really free. Definition of free: Costing nothing; Gratuitous, free! There will be some sort of shipping and handling charge or that you must enter into some sort of membership, or buy something else to get this product or service free. UNDERSTAND, PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO EVERY PART OF AND AD OR PRESENTATION. MARKETING IS HOPING TO ROPE-A-DOPE YOU INTO THEIR DEAL. DONT FALL FOR IT. I know nothing about sensa, i have no comment on sensa. It is just an ad i saw on-line and i am using it as an example. Look at it for yourself and i bet you will find a shit load of disclaimers!

W.T.F. Fourth Bureau Redux!

Part two of  W.T.F. a fourth bureau! Below you will find very informative links that will give you a lot of information. Go there get schooled. Don’t let the blood sucking, money whores like MIKE MONDELLI take advantage of you. His company L2C is one of the companies that are involved in the fourth bureau. Here is the link to L2C  http://www.l2cinc.com/ Here is how they spin what they do by using fancy language. I hate fuckers like this so pay some damn attention!

“L2C solutions use alternative, leading indicator data to inject insight, clarity and confidence into credit risk decisions across the consumer credit life-cycle”

This is what they are really saying!

Alternative = personal data that can be  considered  unreliable

Inject insight = sell your personal data for a profit

Consumer credit life-cycle = track all your personal shit without your knowledge or approval for the rest of your life. Fuck i hate companies like this that hide in the shadows.

Free credit score my ASS!

Why do i even have to speak about this topic? Companies such as free credit score .com basically act as an agent for a fee. They attempt to get you hooked into a membership by offering free trial periods. usually a 7 day free trial period. Lets use free credit score .com as an example.  free credit score REQUIRES you to enroll in their triple advantage program (Here is the A- HA moment. If you now go to the www.experian.com site you will see that the triple advantage program is the same program that is offered by Experian. Are you starting to understand that with this blog i am trying to teach you how to look past the sales pitch). That after your 7 day free trial period if you do not cancel within those 7 days will automatically start billing you $14.95 a month. You can cancel your membership at any time BUT YOUR FEES ARE NON REFUNDABLE. Now let’s go to their frequently asked questions page where you will find some interesting facts and extras. They only offer the Experian credit score. But for an ADDITIONAL one time fee they will order  you the credit report from the other two credit bureaus. (that sucks because you should get all 3 credit reports as some times they differ from each other) they offer card safe service for an ADDITIONAL $19.95 annual fee. Child secure service for an ADDITIONAL $6.95 monthly fee. Which requires card safe for $6.95 monthly fee. Go to their site and read the rest for yourself. A few things i want to point out. Why in the world would anybody want to use a service like this, when you can go direct to the source (Equifax,Experian,Transunion) who already have most of your private and sensitive information and offer most of the same extra services. When you use free credit score .com they keep and store all your private and sensitive information. When you use their card safe service they keep and log all of your credit card information.(are you serious you worry about using your card at retail stores, but now you want to give access to your most private information and credit card numbers to a company based in san francisco but registered in Delaware). The credit score calculation that they call your plus score is just the standard calculation offered by Experian. They say things like, as a member you will ENJOY the following benefits like $50,000 product guarantee (yea but not in New York) I don’t know about you but i ENJOY things like a good restaurant, a base-ball game, sex, etc. I don’t know if i will ENJOY third-party sales offers, pop ups, or solicitations, or benefits at extra ADDITIONAL fees.We take privacy and security very seriously (i hope so, but what those that mean to me) all your information that they collect remains in their system. BOTTOM line you can get a free credit report from ALL 3 CREDIT BUREAUS AT www.annualcreditreport.com and if you want any of the extra options offered by free credit report .com you can get them directly from the 3 credit bureaus who ALREADY HAVE YOUR SENSITIVE information. Instead of having your information in the hands of some third-party company somewhere out-of-state. Come on people wake up. You should NEVER use companies like these that offer free credit reports, there are tons of them out there. Or who offer to repair your credit score (They CAN NOT) Instead go directly to the credit bureus. www.experian.com, www.transunion.com, www.equifax.com Its easy for you to do it yourself, but it does require you to do some work. Stop being lazy! Also go to www.ftc.gov

Mafia or Western Sky Financial

I choose the Mafia they have much better terms on their loans then this bunch of criminals. Your ass will be left bleeding after this company gets through raping you. Take a look at this rates chart from westernsky.com

Lets do the numbers. You borrow $2,600.00 but you actually get $2,525.00 because these sons a bitches are not satisfied with the 140% interest on the loan, they also want $75.00 as a loan fee. They tell you that the monthly payments on the loan are only $298.94 per month. And since you are in need of the loan this monthly payment looks manageable to you. But STOP!  Look at the whole picture, Those $298.94 monthly payments are for a 36 month term. That’s 3 years! You are obligated for $298.94 x 36 months for a total of $10,761.84  Thats $8,311.84 in interest that you paid on just $2,525.00 you originally borrowed. This company has just robbed you with out a gun, they screwed you and did not even give you a kiss first. PLEASE TELL ME YOU SEE AND UNDERSTAND THIS.  Also consider the fact that all loans will be subject solely to the exclusive laws and jurisdiction of the cheyenne river Sioux tribe, cheyenne river indian reservation. All borrowers must consent to be bound to the jurisdiction of the Cheyenne river Sioux tribal court, and further agree that no other state or federal law or regulation shall apply to this loan agreement. WHAT!  i can’t even stop laughing at your dumb ass if you still deal with this company after reading the last paragraph.
